Sustainability Week 2024

22nd October 2024
Sustainability Week 2024

They say all good things come in threes, and our third annual Sustainability Week was no exception!

As we continue to make eco-friendly practices a core part of our business, this year was bigger and better than ever. Our Sustainability Champion, Louise, and her eco dream team, designed a week of activities to get the whole Twickenham team super keen and thinking green!

Future Sustainability Tree Board

We kicked off the week with our communal suggestions board – better known as the F. S. Tree! Everyone got involved, sprouting ideas for how we can branch out in our sustainability efforts. You woodn’t beleaf all the tree-mendous suggestions. We’d fir-gotten how creative we can be! From car sharing for external meetings to using natural air fresheners in our bathrooms, we created a tree that was blooming with ideas.

Creating Reusable Decorations

We’re not just pretty faces at Professor Puzzle … we’re also crazy about crafting! So, in the spirit of sustainability, we got creative and designed some snazzy new office decorations. To combat the waste generated by single-use plastics, (such as balloons), the team let their imaginations run wild and enjoyed designing eye-catching banners and awesome origami confetti. These will be reused for future celebrations to help save the environment (and our party budget!).

Plant Swap

Back by popular demand, and a true office favourite – the plant swap! Our proud plant parents came prepared with their cuttings and turned the office into a budding garden centre. It was an unbe-leaf-able collection, with the office being filled with plants of all shapes, sizes and colours.

All plant babies went to happy new homes, ready to grow and thrive! Who knows, maybe we’ll see their offspring ready to start the cycle again next year!

Step Up Challenge

In a Sustainability Week first, the team threw on their trainers and took on the Professor Puzzle Step Challenge! By opting for walks over car journeys or hopping off public transport a few stops early to finish the journey by foot, we not only reduced our carbon footprint, but also reaped the health benefits. Before you know it, we’ll all be green and lean!

In true PP fashion, we got a little competitive, setting up a league table via the Step Up app, with prizes for the top three steppers. The 3km mid-week run was perfect for those who were truly motivated to up their steps and win a bag of sweets. Congratulations to all our runners and walkers for going the extra mile and stepping up to the challenge!

Litter Picking Twickenham

Like Christmas without presents, or Ant without Dec, no Sustainability Week is complete without our traditional litter pick! The team split off into eagle-eyed groups to conquer the streets of Twickenham and bagged up as much litter as they could carry. From tin cans to takeaway boxes, we did a great job of leaving the streets sparkly clean!

Green Games Night

To round off such a busy week, we took refuge at the Eel Pie pub for an evening of food, games and thirst-quenching (all those steps were exhausting). Louise kicked us off with an inspiring talk about product lifecycles and how we can help contribute to a circular economy.

Then we did what we do best and got some of our favourite games out to play! It was a great way to wind down after an action-packed few days.

Finally, it was the moment we’d all been waiting for – announcing the Step Challenge winners. The race for the top spots was incredibly close, with tens of thousands of steps racked up throughout the week. But in the end Jess S claimed bronze, Hannah the silver, and Jake took home the gold! Congratulations to all who entered for making The Proclaimers proud.

And so, another fun-filled Sustainability Week came to a close, but we’re all striving to take what we learnt and apply it to our everyday lives. Thanks again to Louise and the team for another brilliant week. We can’t wait for the next one!
