Napoleon’s Cannonballs

The empire he created was eventually defeated by a Grand Coalition, led by the Duke of Wellington, at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815.

Can you reattach the pieces of this puzzle? An English sea captain, Sir Francis Drake was only the second person to circumnavigate the globe. Before the Spanish Armada in 1588, he was playing bowls at Plymouth Hoe. When told of the arrival of the Spanish fleet, he famously remarked that he had time to finish his game and still defeat the Armada.

Cassini’s Rings

Can you separate the rings and then reattach them? An Italian mathematician, Cassini is best known for his work in the field of astronomy. He discovered that the planet Saturn was surrounded by a series of rings in addition to four moons. Whilst serving as the astronomer to King Louis XIV, he was the first to determine the distance between Earth and Mars, which allowed estimations of the dimensions of the Solar System to be made.

Jefferson’s Nails

Can you reattach the pieces of this puzzle? The principle author of the Declaration of Independence, and the third president of the United States (1801-1809), Thomas Jefferson was an American founding father. In addition, his interest in science resulted in him creating the first mass production nail manufacturing operation in America.

Van Gogh’s Box

Can you separate the pieces and rebuild the box? A Dutch post-impressionist artist, Van Gogh’s works are among the world’s most valuable paintings. His use of bold colours and swirling brush strokes produced unique landscape paintings, and his prolific portraits and self-portraits were full of emotional intensity.
